Now the timelord himself, David Tennant has burst onto the Hotlist after being named the coolest person on British television.
Tennant easily triumphed in the Radio Times poll, which surveyed over 4,000 readers, after claiming a massive share of the overall vote. He became the tenth person to play Doctor Who after taking over from Christopher Eccleston in 2005 having already starred in several movies including Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
His victory in the Radio Times survey is the latest in a list of personal glories. In March, he placed 20th in New Woman magazine’s Top 100 Men chart. More surprisingly, fans also voted him their favourite Doctor Who over perennial top doc Tom Baker.
The stars left trailing in Tennant’s wake in the survey span several decades of classic and cult TV shows. 24’s Jack Bauer, played by Kiefer Sutherland earned the second most votes while an icon of TV cool, Henry Winkler’s Happy Days character The Fonz, placed third. Colin Firth’s Mr Darcy and Danny John Jules’ character Cat from Red Dwarf completed the top 5.
One person who narrowly missed inclusion in TV’s cool top 5 was Philip Glenister whose character DCI Gene Hunt looks set to build on his cult following amid rumours that he will star in a Life On Mars spin off set in the 1980s. Curiously, his partner in crimefighting John Simm failed to even make the Top 10, a sure sign that nice guys finish last.
