The chunky funnyman claimed a landslide victory over leading Hollywood heartthrobs in the poll conducted by online dating agency Match.com.
Of the five hundred single women surveyed, an impressive 24% named Phoenix Nights star Kay as the man they’d most like to spend an evening with. His nearest rival was leading man and perennial search favourite Brad Pitt who claimed a distant second with 11% of the total votes.

Match’s survey also asked women to name the qualities they look for in an ideal man. 55% said that a good sense of humour was the most important thing they were looking for in a potential partner while only 7% cited good looks as their primary concern. Moreover, 27% said they judged the success of a first date on how much they laughed.

All of which was great news for the phalanx of British funnymen who fared successfully in the survey. In addition to Kay’s victory, Little Britain star David Walliams took fourth place, Russell Brand placed fifth and bemused Office star Martin Freeman claimed 4% of the overall vote for 8th place.

But it wasn’t all doom and gloom for Hotlist’s Hollywood heartthrobs as they claimed five of the Top 10 places. George Clooney joined Brad Pitt in the Top 3 while Orlando Bloom, Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp finished 6th, 9th and 10th respectively.
