And, as the rash of Spice-related searches have proved, pop fans still have a place in their hearts for the female fab five.

The announcement of the Spice Girls’ return sparked a mammoth 8,937 searches for the band, the highest Hotlist total for any pop comeback and a figure that even surpassed the online success enjoyed by Take That following their 2006 comeback. In addition, Live Search look-ups for Spice Girls Reunion, Spice Girls Tickets, Spice Girls Tour and spicegirls.com reflected the girls’ enduring popularity.

Spice search success

Somewhat predictably, the most searched for Spice Girl following the band’s comeback is Victoria Beckham. Her hunger for publicity, coupled with the recent on-field success of hubby David and the pair’s celebrity friendship with Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, has made Victoria a perennial fixture in Hotlist’s Celebrity search chart for some time. But the Spice reunion has given her a timely Hotlist boost as she recorded over 4,000 searches not to mention an additional 731 queries for the most erroneous nickname in pop – Posh Spice.

Second in line in Hotlist’s Spice Girls roll of honour is Emma Bunton who claimed 1,911 of your searches. Baby Spice has enjoyed some solo pop success but her only previous Hotlist appearance came courtesy of her stint in Strictly Come Dancing. Close behind in third was Melanie Brown whose recent paternity wrangle with Eddie Murphy has attracted her some online attention.

Somewhat surprisingly, the least searched Spice was Geri Halliwell. In the band’s mid-nineties heyday, Ginger Spice Geri was the group’s main mouthpiece and certainly claimed the most media attention. Having left the group in 1998, she went on to score four No 1 singles and, at one stage, even worked as a representative of the United Nations! But Geri’s been quiet over recent years with only her much-spoofed friendship with George Michael keeping her in the headlines. She’ll be looking to build on her paltry total of 495 searches as the second chapter of Spice world domination continues over the coming months.
