Well, now you can now follow in the King of Pop’s footsteps by buying your own chart topping international, albeit slightly novelty, pop act.

Swedish pop stars Rednex, best known in the UK for their execrable 1994 No 1 single Cotton Eyed Joe, have put themselves up for sale on Ebay for a hopeful $1.5 million setting an all new bizarre milestone in terms of the hobbies available for the rich and hungry.

And this isn’t just a matter of getting the band to play festivals or gigs of your choosing, the buyer gets absolutely everything: the back catalogue, the band, the trademark, the contracts and the publishing rights to all the hits.

Despite being viewed primarily as one hit wonder’s in the UK, Rednex have apparently enjoyed No 1 singles in 15 different countries and have sold over 10 million records worldwide. Apparently, the unique countrified europop stylings of Cotton Eyed Joe can still be heard frequently throughout sports arenas, dance floors and, erm, ski-bars across the world 13 years after its heyday, a sure sign that the royalties will continue to flow for the lucky buyer.

While the band haven’t troubled the UK charts for some time, their records have continued to sell in Europe. The band have spent a record breaking total of 30 weeks at No 1 in Germany’s singles chart. In addition, their Dixie-fried Eurodance sound has been heard on several movie soundtracks including Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror, Samuel L Jackson flick The Negotiator and a recent animated film Barnyard as well as in episodes of US TV show Malcolm in the Middle.

If the $1.5 million price tag seems a little over the odds, don’t fear, there’s still a way to play a part in the story. The band is offering a $25,000 reward for anyone who puts them in contact with an eventual buyer. You can explore the finer points of the deal at the band’s website.
