Stephen Bruce, the owner of Manhattan restaurant Serendipity 3, teamed up with luxury jeweller Euphoria New York to create the Frrozen Haute Chocolate. With a price tag of $25,000, their creation has set a new Guinness world record for the most expensive dessert.

It’s not the first time Bruce has created a sensationally-price sweet. Four years ago, he unveiled a $1,000 ice cream sundae called Golden Opulence that has since become a staple on his menu and a favourite with rock stars, socialites and other celebrities.

The Frrozen Haute Chocolate is rich in every sense. The recipe is a blend of 28 cocoas, including 14 of most expensive and exotic from around the globe. The dessert is infused with 0.2 ounces of edible 23-karat gold and is served in a goblet lined with edible gold. The base of the goblet features an 18-karat gold bracelet with 1 carat of white diamonds.

The sundae is topped with whipped cream covered with more gold and a side of La Madeline au Truffle from Knipschildt Chocolatier, which sells for $2,600 a pound. It is eaten with a gold spoon decorated with white and chocolate-coloured diamonds, which can also be taken home.

Bruce’s record-breaking dessert wasn’t the only highly priced meal unveiled in New York on the eve on Guinness World Records Day. 24 hours earlier, chef Frank Tujague of The Westin New York hotel unveiled a $1,000 bagel topped with white truffle cream cheese and goji berry infused Riesling jelly with golden leaves.
