Find out more about the Caffe Raro, the world's most expensive coffee (Image © David Parry/PA Wire)A exclusive gourmet coffee blended from cat droppings is being sold at a London department store for £50 per cup.

The Caffe Raro is thought to be the world’s most expensive cup of coffee. It was created by internationally-renowned barista David Cooper and is a blend of Jamaican Blue Mountain and the exclusive Kopi Luwak bean.

Kopi Luwak, or Civet coffee, is made from beans eaten, partly digested, and then expelled by the Indonesian civet cat. The cats, which live in the foliage of plantations across south-east Asia, are said to pick the best and ripest coffee berries.

Enzymes in their digestive system break down the flesh of the fruit before the animals expel the bean. The beans are then collected from the plantation floor by workers who wash away the dung and roast them. The beans retail at a whopping £324 per kilogram.

The Caffe Raro has gone on sale at the Peter Jones department store in Sloane Square, London. All profits from sales of the coffee will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.
