Find out more about The Zimmers with Live Search (Image © MSN Video/iFilm)With new generations of fans continuing to discovering their music, the list of ageing rock icons still putting out music is endless. Dylan, The Doors, The Who and, most famously of all, The Rolling Stones are still touring and, as a testament to their longevity, still filling arenas and stadiums all over the world.

But now there’s some new old kids on the block. With a combined age of 3,000 years, The Zimmers are laying claim to the title of world’s oldest band and, as their debut single is about to be released, are set to steal the Rolling Stones’ thunder.

The Zimmers are made up of 40 rocktegenarians and their ironic cover of The Who’s My Generation has already made them a cult online phenomenon. It was recorded at the Abbey Road studios made famous by The Beatles and is set for release on May 28.

The band was the brainchild of Tim Samuels, a documentary maker investigating the plight of the elderly in the UK. Zimmers frontman Alf Carretta, a 90-year old Londoner, confirmed that the band has given him a new lease of life at a time when he was stuck in a rut.

The buzz around The Zimmers isn’t just restricted to the online world. So far, the band has attracted media interest from as far afield as South Korea. They are set to travel to America to star on the Jay Leno show where they’ll share a sofa with pig-loving movie icon George Clooney.
