Man dies in fairy cake eating contest
By Lee Harvey, MSN Search Editor
Find out more about the tragic cake-related death of Adam Deeley with Live Search A man choked to death at a party during a contest to see who could eat the most left-over fairy cakes.

34-year-old Adam Deeley, a graphic design student from Birmingham, collapsed in the early hours of February 21 at the Monkey Café nightclub in Swansea. First-aiders were unable to clear his airway and paramedics were subsequently unable to revive him.

He was pronounced dead at Singleton hospital at 3.20am. South Wales Police are waiting for the outcome of a post-mortem examination before they announce the cause of death, but are treating it as an accident.

Deeley worked at the Monkey Café but was at the club on his day off to attend an event to raise money for a local artist. Guests said that a lot of buffet food had not been touched and they decided to hold the cake eating contest in order to clear up the leftover grub. But fun turned to tragedy when five fairy cakes became lodged in Deeley’s throat and he started to choke.

Monkey Café owners Amanda Davey and Paul Dyke conveyed their deepest sympathy to Deeley’s family and said that the tragic accident would serve as a cautionary tale.
