Baby Girl, an 18-month-old moggy, was found by a family in Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania and taken to the Washington Area Humane Society, a local animal shelter, where a medical evaluation determined that the superfluous paw protruding from the side of her body could be successfully removed.

Sadly, the operation will not make Baby Girl a regular four-footed feline as her left hind leg is deformed and will have to be amputated. A doctor at Metropolitan Veterinary Center in Robinson Township has agreed to operate on the cat. Medical staff confirmed that the surgery, which will take place in the next two weeks, will improve her overall quality of life and that, even with 60% of her current leg power, she will be able to move around without assistance.

Chrystin Rice, who works at the Washington Area Humane Society, says Baby Girl is in good health as she waits for her op. She suggested that Baby Girl’s extra leg could have been the result of in-breeding.

Staff at the Washington Area Humane Society are now hunting for someone to adopt Baby Girl after her surgery. So far, no one has applied to give the cat a home although the shelter has received a several calls inquiring about her progress.
