1 – Carol Vorderman
Telly’s favourite mathematical institution is still providing the vowels, consonants and arithmetic answers on Channel 4’s longest running show Countdown. She made her debut on the show in 1982 and her lasting success on the show has led to her becoming one of Britain’s highest earning women. Her annual salary is estimated at £5 million. Though often criticised in the press for her penchant for wearing revealing outfits at awards ceremonies, it seems she remains a woman of the people. In addition to being Hotlist’s most searched for iconic older woman, she was recently voted as “The Woman Most British Men Want to Marry” in the largest ever online poll conducted by dating website match.com.

2 – Janice Dickinson
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? 53-year-old American supermodel Janice Dickinson claims the number 2 position on our list thanks to her relentless and exhausting performance in reality show I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here. Dickinson, who famously billed herself as the world’s first supermodel, outlasted her younger jungle compadres and alienated those of her own age. Her bombastic verbal assault led to her being voted to perform more Bushtucker trials than any other I’m A Celeb contestant. Despite this, she managed to survive the full term in the jungle and finished runner-up to Christopher Biggins.

3 – Sharon Osbourne
Thanks to the success of reality TV show The Osbournes, hosting her own chat shows and securing numerous advertising contracts, Sharon Osbourne is, according to the Sunday Times Rich List, the 60th richest woman in Britain. Her search success over the past six months is primarily due to her work as a judge on X Factor, specifically the conflict with Simon Cowell that caused her to walk off the show. She hit the headlines again in February 2008 when, along with husband Ozzy and daughter Kelly, she hosted the Brit Awards. She sparked complaints after swearing at surreal comic Vic Reeves as he struggled to present an award.

4 – Marilyn Monroe
Born Norma Jeane Mortensen on June 1 1926, Marilyn Monroe was considered an icon of cinema, fashion and beauty and was arguably the world’s most famous woman up until her untimely death in 1962. Her iconic and influential status as a cultural figure of unprecedented longevity is displayed by her regular presence on Forbes’ annual Highest Earning Dead Celebrities survey. Her estate earned $7 million in 2007 and she placed 9th overall. She remains the only woman ever to make it into the Forbes Top 10.

5 – Raquel Welch
Born Jo Tejada on September 5 1940, Raquel Welch is a Golden Globe-winning American actress who became one of the leading sex symbols of the 1960s and 1970s. Her most memorable publicity shoot, where she was clad in a furry animal-skin bikini for One Million Years B.C., became a bestselling poster. Playboy called her the "Most Desired Woman" of the 1970s. Online interest in Raquel peaked in the summer of 2007 when is was reported that she had been invited to play Eva Longoria's sexy aunt on hit TV show Desperate Housewives.
