Li-Lo’s performance in I Know Who Killed Me, in which she played the dual roles of an abducted small town girl and a stripper who is missing some body parts, earned her the Razzie for Worst Actress. It was the second successive year that Li-Lo had been nominated in the Worst Actress category. In 2007, her performance in Just My Luck was deemed not quite as terrible as Sharon Stone’s efforts in Basic Instinct 2.

This year though, Lohan made good on being the odds-on favourite for the Worst Actress award. Her rivals for the gong included Jessica Alba for Awake and Good Luck Chuck, Diane Keaton for Because I Said So and Elisha Cuthbert for Captivity. I Know Who Killed Me also picked up the Razzies for worst film, worst director and worst screenplay and also triumphed in a new category, worst excuse for a horror movie.

The other Hollywood A-lister to feel the sting of Razzie shame was Eddie Murphy. The former Beverly Hills Cop star’s performance in the execrable Norbit earned him the Razzie for Worst Actor. His multi-role performance in the flop movie, in which he co-starred with Thandie Newton, meant he was also crowned Worst Supporting Actor and Worst Supporting Actress (for playing his own wife).

Now in their 28th year, the Golden Raspberry Awards were born in 1981 with the purpose of being the antidote to the hype and hubris of Hollywood award shows. Traditionally handed out the night before the Oscars, the majority of cinema's shamed superstars avoid the ceremony like the plague. However,, some have embraced the infamous awards with good humour. Most memorably, Halle Berry gave an acceptance speech clutching her 2004 Worst Actress Razzie in one hand and her 2002 Best Actress Oscar in the other.
